Directories

General Information on Directories
Directories are publications that contain lists of names or organizations, and may include addresses, biographical, employment, and membership information. Directories may be produced by local organizations, governments, institutions, commercial or professional groups.
The Stephen H. Hart has many directories that may provide useful information to genealogists and biographers:

City and County Directories

City Directories, usually published annually, provide an alphabetical listing of the adult residents a city or area, and may include the individual's address, occupation, spouse's name, place of employment, as well as other facts. City directories often include a classified section that lists businesses by category, and a section that lists government offices, officials, public institutions, and maps. County directories, as well as some city directories, provide information on rural or suburban residents. A city directory for a large town may also include entries for many smaller towns in the surrounding area.

Colorado State Business Directories

a government section that lists federal officials in the state, state officials and some county officials,
commercial laws of Colorado
an index to businesses
advertisements
an alphabetical listing of towns that includes brief information on the location, population and principal industries of the town, followed by an alphabetical listing of the businessmen, officials and businesses of the area
a classified section listing businesses, trades and professions by category.
