Stephen
H. Hart Library
The Stephen H. Hart Library is a regional research facility with
collections that focus on Colorado and Western History. The library
is open to the general public. There is no charge to visit the library
to view the collections.
The goal of the library is to provide public access to the research
collections of the Colorado Historical Society, while insuring the
protection of the state's documentary and cultural heritage for
future generations. The Stephen H. Hart Library is a non-circulating
research facility, so materials may not be checked out.
Hours
The library is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
and is located on the second floor of the Colorado History Museum,
1300 Broadway, in downtown Denver, Colorado.
The library is always closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Holiday Hours The library will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 in observance of Veterans Day. The library will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Visitor Information
When you
visit the library for the first time, the librarian will ask you
to fill out a registration form and will issue each visitor a Researcher
Card. A photo ID is needed for registration.
Please
present your Researcher Card each time you visit the library.
Since
visitors are only allowed to bring writing materials, including paper, pencils or a laptop, into the reading
room, lockers are provided for personal belongings. Cameras, scanners, cell phones, food and drink can't be brought into the library.
Library
users are welcome to retrieve books and microfilm in the public
areas of the reading room. Most of the collections are stored in
non-public areas and will be brought out upon request. Library staff
is happy to assist and advise researchers as to library holdings
and use of indexes and catalogs.
Third Thursdays in the Library workshops
Are you a genealogist, preservationist, or history buff who wants to get the most out of your research? Then don't miss the Stephen H. Hart Library's workshops, held on the third Thursday of every month beginning in May 2008 (excluding November & December), 9 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Each workshop will begin in the lobby of the Colorado History Museum at 9 a.m. before moving to the reading room of the library for small group hands-on instruction using traditional resources, the latest technological tools and rarely used collections. Learn about the library's hidden treasures and how they can enhance your research! Following the presentation, library staff will be available to assist participants with their own research projects using the resources featured during the workshop.

Falkenberg
Gallery
The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Colorado
History Museum.
On permanent display are "Mesa Verde Revisited," a
sculpture by
Jutta, and an 1890s Denver Panorama by William Henry
Jackson.
The gallery also features rotating displays of items from the library collections. Currently on display are items relating to the Denver Broncos Football team.
