Glass Negatives |
Through
the years, the Aultman Studio maintained journals or registers that
recorded the names of customers, dates, and glass plate negative
numbers of the photographs. This index includes photographs taken by
the Aultman Studio between 1890 and 1928.
Hints
for searching the index
The name given in the index is the person who paid for the
photograph. If the photograph is of a child, the name of a
parent will probably appear in the index rather than that of the
child. In addition, the index often contains listings under a
woman's married name, "Mrs. Wm. T. Hobson," rather than
"Mary R. Hobson."
In order to preserve the historical integrity of the index, names
appear in the index just as they were written in the registers, even
when an error or omission seemed obvious. There are a variety of
spellings for some names. The name "Torres" could be
spelled "Torres" or "Torrez."
"Thompson" may appear as "Thomason" or
"Thomson." When searching the index, try alternate
spellings of the name you're searching.
Because the original Aultman negatives are glass, and quite old,
some of the negatives have been lost or broken.
Viewing
the collection
