Camera Club and often entered his photographs in amateur photo contests.
In 1901 he was the foreman at H.W. Krug Construction & Manufacturing

& Smith Contractors, Builders & Planing Mill located at 300-306

Dean, Frank Collection: (see Colorado on Glass).
In 1882 Frank Dean moved from Missouri to Gunnison where he set
up a photography studio. He married Lucy Buckley in 1884. In 1890
Dean set up additional studios in Crested Butte and Lake City. The
Crested Butte studio closed in 1896, while the Lake City studio
lasted until 1899. In 1900 Frank Dean moved to Grand Junction, where
he lived until his death in 1940. About 99% of the plates in the
collection are unidentified portraits. The rest are portraits of
special interests: Indians from the Teller Institute, band or military
uniforms, and portraits of identified persons. Dean considered his
portraits to be more important than his commercial photographs,
so when he retired he discarded the photographs of scenery and events,
keeping only his portraits. The Frank Dean plates were uncovered
ca.1964 when the Dean Studio in Grand Junction was being demolished.
Terry Mangen collected the negatives for the Colorado Historical
Society the week the building was destroyed. Eleven
Dean images from Colorado Historical Society Collections are
available for viewing in digital format on the web site http://photoswest.org.
