Clatworthy Collection: (see also Autochrome collection) Fred P. Clatworthy operated a studio in Estes Park, Colorado and traveled throughout the U.S. and foreign countries taking pictures for the National Geographic and other magazines. Many of the photos and autochromes were used in a traveling exhibition that opened at the Colorado History Museum in May 1987. Thirty-five Autochromes acquired from the D & RG RR are now part of the Society's permanent collection. Some of the Clatworthy images are available for viewing at http://photoswest.org. (See also Boxed Collection)

Coleman Collection: Thomas Coleman donated this collection in 1974. The photographs depict outdoor recreation scenes ca. 1895--1905. 49 4 X 5 plates
Crouch Collection:
84-193. & 87-452. (see albums, rolled panoramas, lantern slides) W. L. Crouch was an amateur photographer and businessman in Trinidad, Colorado. He belonged to the Trinidad Camera Club and often entered his photographs in amateur photo contests. In 1901 he was the foreman at H.W. Krug Construction & Manufacturing Co. and lived at 601 Park Street. From 1902 - 1909 he owned Crouch & Smith Contractors, Builders & Planing Mill located at 300-306 Nevada Avenue. In 1910 the company became Crouch Lumber & Construction Co., where his daughter Dorothy A. was a bookkeeper for some years. In 1915 the Crouch and his wife Edna L.Crouch moved to 1003 San Juan Street. W. L. Crouch died in 1935. This collection was found in a storage room in the Pioneer Museum in Trinidad and was transferred to the Colorado Historical Society in 1985 and 1987. 60 4 X 5 plates, 225 5 X 7 plates
Dean, Frank Collection:
(see Colorado on Glass). In 1882 Frank Dean moved from Missouri to Gunnison where he set up a photography studio. He married Lucy Buckley in 1884. In 1890 Dean set up additional studios in Crested Butte and Lake City. The Crested Butte studio closed in 1896, while the Lake City studio lasted until 1899. In 1900 Frank Dean moved to Grand Junction, where he lived until his death in 1940. About 99% of the plates in the collection are unidentified portraits. The rest are portraits of special interests: Indians from the Teller Institute, band or military uniforms, and portraits of identified persons. Dean considered his portraits to be more important than his commercial photographs, so when he retired he discarded the photographs of scenery and events, keeping only his portraits. The Frank Dean plates were uncovered ca.1964 when the Dean Studio in Grand Junction was being demolished. Terry Mangen collected the negatives for the Colorado Historical Society the week the building was destroyed.  Eleven Dean images from Colorado Historical Society Collections are available for viewing in digital format on the web site http://photoswest.org. 150 4 X 5 plates, 3000 5 X 7 plates
Downing Collection:
(see also boxed collection "Anna Downing Schmidt Collection") These glass plate negatives were taken by an ardent amateur photographer who compiled a view of early suburban life in Montclair, an upper-middle class Denver suburb spawned by the eastward extension of the Denver Tramway Company. Photographs include interior and exterior views of suburban homes, family and social gatherings, parks, parkways, private yards, and alleyways, transportation (including the tramway) and a number of informal portraits. The collection depicts an important transitional phase in Denver's growth between 1893 and 1910. The collection was donated by Dorothy Downing in 1976. 850 4 X 5 and 5 X 7 plates
D & R G Collection:
These glass negatives are from the corporate photo archives of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad 1871-1952. They consist of promotional material of areas which the D&RG RR served. The collection includes every town, settlement, junction, and siding on the D&RG route including many mining, agriculture, manufacturing and industrial views of Colorado. Some of the negatives in this collection have been separated out to form the Beam Collection. (see also lantern slides, albums, miscellaneous prints, color transparencies). An inventory of this collection is available in the Stephen H. Hart Library. 2,332 8 X 10 plates
Evans Collection:
John Evans was an early Denver booster and Colorado's Second Territorial Governor. These glass negatives include portraits of family members and photos of the family residence on E. Alameda. Copy prints of these negatives can be found in the subject collection under BPF--Evans Family. The descendants of John Evans donated this collection to the Society in 1970. 1 4X5 plate, 15 8X10 plates
