ATCHISON, TOPEKA & SANTA FE RAILROAD
The Atchison and Topeka Railroad was organized in 1859. The name was changed to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe in 1863. Construction began in 1869, and generally followed the Arkansas River to La Junta, where the river branches, one branch toward Albuquerque, the other toward Denver.
