The Ute Indian Museum Store features a selection of jewelry, pottery, books, children’s toys and other items purchased from Native American enterprises. Selections include a wide price range with new and different items available throughout the year. Over 200 books related to Native American history, medicine, healing, spirituality, native traditions, crafts, and cooking are available. A selection of books specifically related to the Ute Indian history and settlement of Colorado and large format coffee table books are also available. All of the jewelry sold in the museum store is Native American made. Visitors will find sterling silver earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pins, rings, belt buckles, and money clips, inlaid, or accented with turquoise. There are also hand-beaded items including ear rings, barrettes, decorated writing pens, etc. The museum store carries a variety of Ute-made pottery items. Bowls, coffee cups, platters, wedding vases, and miscellaneous items come in a variety of colors as well as traditional black and white colors. All Ute pottery carried by the museum is lead free and approved for food usage by the FDA. For children, parents may find many gift item possibilities, which include playing cards with native American designs, soft kokopelli dolls made of fleece, traditionally dressed native American dolls from a variety of tribes (including the Utes) with matching cradle boards, books, child-sized jewelry, t-shirts, etc. Other items available include wall hangings, a selection of Native American music, rock candy, incense, teas, fry bread mixes, refrigerator magnets, and native-designed t-shirts, and hats. One of the newer items carried by the gift shop is bottled spring water. The Northern Ute tribe has recently begun a new commercial venture to sell spring water found under the mountains on their reservation. This unusually pure water has been used by the tribe for their drinking water and for ceremonial uses since they were relocated to Fort Duchesne in the early 1880’s. Including this water for sale in the gift shop, variously called Nu-Pah or Whiterocks Spring water, is an example of how the museum supports Ute enterprises.
