Winner of the 1997 Choice Magazine award for outstanding scholarship,
Cheyenne Dog Soldiers goes beyond traditional analysis of Plains
Indian warrior art to identify actual historical encounters between
Indians and whites during the furious battles that followed the
Sand Creek Massacre of 1864. The authors describe action, clothing,
and cultural or historical elements in exact detail for 107 drawings
made by Cheyenne Dog Soldiers in the late 1860s-the earliest known
examples of ledgerbook art. $34.95 paper.
